Coupon Lingo

Are you new to couponing? If so, do you sometimes feel like when you’re reading about deals or coupons, it’s in a different language?!?  To help you on your path to some sweet savings & deals, here’s a list of some commonly used “Coupon Lingo” abbreviations:

Coupon Types

Printable: Printable coupon from the Internet
Blinkies: Coupon dispensed near product, in the store (usually from a “blinking” red box)
Catalina: Coupon dispensed at the register at the time of purchase (on separate paper)
Peelie: Coupon that you peel off the package
Tear Pad: Pad of coupons or rebate forms found hanging from a store shelf or display
MQ: Manufacturer coupon
IP: Internet Printable coupon (a coupon that you print from the Internet)
P&G (or PG): Proctor & Gamble Sunday newspaper insert coupons
RP: Red Plum Sunday newspaper insert coupons
V: Valassis (former name of Red Plum inserts)
SS: SmartSource Sunday newspaper insert coupons
FLIP: Food Lion Internet printable
CRT: Cash Register Tape (coupon that prints on your receipt)
Regional: Coupon only distributed to a certain area

General Coupon Lingo

B1G1, BOGO, B1G1F: “Buy 1, Get 1 Free”. Sometimes the second item is not Free, but it could be B1G1 50% Off (Buy 1 Get 1 50% Off) or B2G1 (Buy 2 Get 1 Free)
$/$$: Dollars off when you buy XX dollars (example $1/$10 = $1 Off when you buy $10 dollars worth of merchandise).
$1/1: One dollar off one item
$1/2: One dollar off two items
.50/1: Fifty cents off one item
.50/2: Fifty cents off 2 items
NED: No Expiration Date
Q or CPN: Coupon
BC: Before Coupons
AC: After Coupons
HTH: Hope This Helps
OOP: Out Of Pocket
MFR: Manufacturer
YMMV: Your Mileage May Vary (you may find the item priced differently or it may not work for you the same)

FAR: Free After Rebate

Drug Store Savings Terms

ECB: Extra Care Buck ,or Extra Buck (CVS “money”, essentially an in-store credit that can be used on your next purchase)
RR: Register Rewards (Walgreens “money”, essentially an in-store credit that can be used on your next purchase)
IVC: Instant Value Coupon (Walgreens store coupon, found at the front of the store in monthly booklets)
ESR: Easy Saver Rebate (Walgreens)
SCR: Single Check Rebate (rebate system at Rite Aid)
