Extreme Couponing Tip: Coupon Stacking!

Read below to learn about Coupon Stacking, and soon you’ll be stacking like a pro! It’s easy to do, and a great way to save even more on your groceries, personal care, and household items…
What is Coupon Stacking?
Do you think “coupon stacking” sounds like you’re doing something wrong (or illegal?!?) It’s definitely neither of those things. Coupon Stacking simply means that you are using 1 STORE coupon plus 1 MANUFACTURER coupon when purchasing 1 item.
This basically means that you are saving money from both the store and the manufacturer when purchasing this item. Keep in mind that the store is not reimbursed for the store coupons; this is a cost of doing business for them. They are, however, reimbursed for the manufacturer coupon, including a handling fee.
Here’s an example for what coupon stacking might look like…
Crest Toothpaste, at $2.50
Walgreens Store Coupon: $1.00/1 Crest Toothpaste
Manufacturer Coupon: $1.00/1 Crest Toothpaste
*In this case, you can use both coupons since they are available… for a total savings of $2.
Final Cost = 50¢ after stacked store + manufacturer coupons!
What Stores Allow Coupon Stacking?
Most stores that offer their own in-store coupons allow coupon stacking. National stores such as Target, Walgreens, CVS, and Rite-Aid offer printable coupons on their site and/or coupon booklets in-store, and many times regional grocery stores do, as well. Coupon stacking is perfectly fine for the stores that offer these coupons.
More Coupon Stacking Tips
- It’s always a good idea to be familiar with the particular store’s coupon policy. There may be occasions where the cashier (or even store management) may not be informed as to the details of the store’s coupon policy. For this reason, it’s a good idea to carry a copy of the store corporate coupon policy with you, if it’s available online to print.
- Check the in-store flyers. Many contain store coupons to stack with manufacturer coupons!

Extreme Couponing Tip: Learn to Save at Walgreens! Register Rewards, Walgreens Coupons & More…

Want to learn Extreme Couponing tips for Walgreens? Read below to learn some of the basics on the Walgreens Register Rewards program, Walgreens coupons, and more… and then be sure to check out the current Walgreens Deals for this week to snatch up some great FREE and super-cheap deals!
First, here is a direct link to the Walgreens Corporate Coupon Policy. You can read this to familiarize yourself with all of the coupon rules for Walgreens.

Walgreens Register Rewards
Walgreens offers a reward system for their shoppers, called the Register Rewards program. The basics of how this works are…
- There is no registration or card required to participate in the Register Rewards program.
- Each week, Walgreens offers deals that when you purchase certain sale items, you will receive a Register Reward that prints after your transaction (which can be found in their weekly flyers, and we always post them here in the Walgreens Store category on Sweet2Save)
- These Register Rewards can then essentially be used as a coupon towards your next purchase (even the same day), on whatever item that you’d like from Walgreens.
- The Register Rewards are considered manufacturer’s coupons at Walgreens.
- At Walgreens, you can only have 1 manufacturer and 1 store coupon PER ITEM purchased.
- This means that if you plan to use your Register Reward for an item that you ALSO have a manufacturer’s coupon for, you will need to add 1 more item to your purchase to be able to use both (i.e. an inexpensive “filler” item, such as a caramel candy that they keep near their registers for this exact purpose)

Walgreens Store Coupons
- Walgreens provides Walgreens Store Coupon Booklets each month.
- These can be found at the front of the store, near the weekly flyers. Note that these are STORE coupons and can be used ALONG WITH a manufacturer coupon on the SAME product. (Remember, 1 store coupon + 1 manufacturer coupon can be used on 1 product, if they are both available).
- We post about the Walgreens booklets and list out all of the coupons within them monthly in the Walgreens Store category.

More Walgreens Tips
- If you are new to drug store deal shopping, Walgreens can be tricky. Start slow, only purchase a few items, and learn first!
- Walgreens Register Rewards DO have an expiration date, and they often expire quickly. Be careful not to let your Register Rewards expire… they are like cash at Walgreens! (“Walgreens Money”!)
- You can “roll” your Register Rewards, meaning that you can save your Register Rewards from this week and use them on a free to super-cheap deal at Walgreens next week! (Just be sure to remember that the RR are treated as manufacturer coupons and be sure that you do not have more manufacturer coupons than you have items in your transaction.)
- Your purchase cannot be less than the value of your Register Rewards being redeemed. (i.e. you cannot purchase a $1.99 product and use a $2 register reward). Make sure your total will be over the $2 (even $2.01 will work fine).
- You might want to print the Walgreens Store Corporate Coupon Policy and carry it with you, just in case you run into an issue or an unfriendly cashier!
Remember… start small, learn, and soon your will be on your way to some extremely discounted health, personal care, and household products at Walgreens!

Extreme Couponing Tip: Cereal Sales Cycles, When to Stock Up & More…

Want to learn Extreme Couponing tips for cereal? Read below to learn the best times of year for sales on different varieties of cereal, when to stock up, and even more tips.
Cereal Sales Cycles
Cereal is something that we regularly see coupons for, and it often goes on sale. However, during certain times of the year we see deeper sales on certain varieties of cereal.

January: New Year’s Resolution Sales… at the beginning of the year, you’ll find a lot of the healthy cereals on sale, such as Special K, Raisin Bran, Kashi & others.

February: National Hot Breakfast Month… you’ll find a lot of oatmeal, cream of wheat, and grits coupons & sales.

June: National Dairy Month… You’ll see good prices and promotions for milk, so cereal deals & sales will also abound during this time. We many times see coupons or catalinas for discounts on cereal when you buy milk.

September: National Breakfast Month… We often see sales, coupons & specials on kid-friendly cereals, as busy families gear up for back-to-school. These discounts usually include Cheerios, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Cocoa Puffs, Life, etc.

December: Holiday Cereal Sales… You’ll find great sales & coupons for cereals such as Chex and Crispix which are great for holiday party mixes.
When to Stock Up on Cereal
(Keep in mind that we go through a lot of cereal in our household, so your own stock-up prices may vary)
- I never pay more than $2 for a box of cereal (for large boxes) or $1.50 (for smaller boxes).
- My stock-up price is $1. When a sale & coupon give us a box of cereal for $1 or less, we stock up!
- What’s your stock-up price for cereal? Share in the comments below…
More Cereal Savings Tips
- Peelies: Be on the lookout for peelie coupons on cereal. They will sometimes be for savings on the actual cereal itself, but other times you will get discounts on milk or other items.
- Mail-in Rebates & Freebies: Look for specially marked boxes of cereal that offer mail-in-rebates or free items (such as movie tickets) with purchase.
- Free Samples of Cereal: Sign up for FREE samples of cereal and most times you’ll also receive a coupon in the mail, as well!
